Adapting Meditation for Trauma-Sensitive Kids Yoga: Join Us at the National Kid’s Yoga Conference
We are so excited to be both sponsoring and participating in the National Kid’s Yoga Conference this Spring. The conference is completely virtual this year, which means that you can attend from anywhere! The weekend includes live yoga classes, workshops, round table discussions, and much more! We are most excited to get to learn from people all over the world.
We chose to sponsor the conference and send a presenter to be able to share some of the teachings that we so passionately believe in with other yoga teachers. These teachings are important now more than ever. With everything that is going on in the world with the COVID pandemic, the long standing systemic social injustice issues, and more, we would be remiss to think our young people are not being affected. The conference gives space for those who teach children's yoga and mindfulness to learn from each other, so that we can do better for our young people.
We hope you will join us at my live, virtual workshop on April 18, 2021 at 10 a.m. The workshop will focus on exploring mindfulness and meditation, and how to teach them in a trauma sensitive way. Anyone can pick up a book or read a meditation off the internet to young people, maybe even thinking that’s the only way to be mindful, or this cure all for anything, but it’s not. There is so much confusion to be unraveled about meditation and mindfulness, and this workshop begins that journey. Workshop attendees will learn about meditation and the risks/benefits of meditation for young people, how commonly taught meditation practices can impact young people who have experienced trauma, and how to teach specific practices that have similar benefits to meditation in trauma-sensitive ways.
There are a lot of presenters with a lot of wonderful knowledge, so we hope to see you in our workshop and others throughout the weekend. If you join us, be sure to stop and meet Renee, one of our teacher training graduates in her resource room on Sunday, April 10, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. and then again between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Renee will be giving a mini-presentation on our programs at 10:30, 2:30, and 4:30.
