20 HOURS OF TRAINING

BECOME A CERTIFIED YOUTH YOGA TEACHER

In this 20 hour introductory training, you will gain the skills and confidence to begin to teach kids yoga to children 4-12+ years old. When you finish this training, you will be able to take your skills out into the world and begin to teach right away!

This training is for you if you have a love of yoga and want to share that love of yoga with the young people in your life. You DO NOT have to be a yoga instructor to take our training! Find out more details below.

Training Overview

Learning Objectives

As a Level One graduate, you will be have an intermediate understanding of:

  • How yoga and mindfulness benefit young people

  • The history of yoga and some basic yoga philosophy

  • What trauma is and how it affects the development of youth

  • How to structure a trauma sensitive yoga class for children

  • Asanas (postures) and breathing techniques for young people

  • Lesson planning, classroom management, and communication

  • Activities, games, songs, and more to include in your classes

  • How to begin to grow your business as a youth yoga instructor

We highly recommend that you also complete the Level Two Certification to strengthen skills introduced in this training, so much so that when you sign up for Level One and Level Two together, we offer a discount.

The only prerequisite to this training is that you have your own yoga practice. We do not designate a specific length of time that you must be practicing yoga for but if you are unsure if you are ready, we are happy to talk with you more about this.

You do not have to be a yoga instructor to take this training!

Tuition for your 20 hour Level One Certification program includes:

Live (Hybrid) Training

The live training consists of an introductory online training (3 hours) and a weekend intensive (17 hours). The in-person training includes lectures, critical group discussions, experiential learning, and assisting/teaching parts of a kids’ yoga class!

Self-Paced Virtual Course

Learn the same content as our live training, but at your own pace and on your own time. The content is exactly the same. All 20 hours are online and activities are completed on your own. To become certified, you submit a (super fun) final project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a yoga teacher to take this training?

Absolutely not! This training is open to any person who has a love of yoga that they want to share with children! We highly recommend this training for teachers, parents and other adults interested in helping young people or leading yoga classes.

How long should I be doing yoga before taking this training?

We do recommend that you have your own yoga practice before starting this training, but we do not give a specific time period that you must be practicing. Some people practice so much yoga in a short amount of time that they learn a good deal in a short period of time, others float in and out of the practice for many years. We welcome all levels of yogis! If you have questions, we recommend that you reach out to us.

Can I register with the Yoga Alliance following this training?

To become a Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT) with the Yoga Alliance, you must complete a 200-hour yoga teacher training and a 95-hour children’s yoga teacher training. You must also teach 30 hour of children’s yoga classes following completion of both of these trainings. If you are interested in learning more about becoming an RCYT, please visit the Yoga Alliance’s Website.

Can I get Yoga Alliance CEs for this training?

Yes! If you do not plan to pursue yo ur RCYT through Therefore I Learn in the future, we are more than happy to provide you with 20 CE’s for your Yoga Alliance registration. Both of our lead instructors are YACEPs.
